your sidelines will never be empty.

Dear Maliyah,

The other day someone asked me to describe to them my role in your life.

My answer?

I want to be your biggest cheerleader.

Yes, I strive to be the sister who fills your life with adventure, sits with you in your sorrow, and acts goofy to remind you to be yourself. I desire to be someone who speaks truth and encouragement into your life day in and day out. I hope to be someone who makes you laugh and keeps life exciting.

But more than anything, I want you to see me as your biggest cheerleader.

I want you to know that no matter what, I’m on your squad.

Good day or bad day.

Wise decision or dumb decision.

You tell me you hate me or tell me you love me.

I am going nowhere.

I may encourage you in one direction or another. I will gently counsel you when I think you are headed in the wrong direction. I’ll share with you what I believe you need to hear.

But in the midst of that, I will always be on your side. Defending you. Supporting you. Loving you.

So when you are angry and your words to me are, “Go away. I don’t like you”, my response will be, “I’m not going anywhere. I love you.”

When you make the wrong choice and people want to remind you of your mistakes, I’ll remind you of all your wins.

When you are battling to figure out who you are, I’ll remind you Whose you are.

I will always be on your sidelines as you play this game called life.

I’ll be the one cheering for you so loud you become slightly embarrassed and people wonder what’s wrong with me.

I’ll ignore what’s labeled as proper to be sure you hear my words above everyone else’s...because I love you a whole lot.

But today, as I was praying for you thinking about who I want to be to you, it hit me.

I want to be your biggest cheerleader, but I can’t be...that spot is already taken.

You see your Father, our Abba, He already claimed the role as your biggest cheerleader.

The person I hope and strive to be for you...your constant, your confidant, your best friend, your counselor, your encourager...He is all of that and so much more.

He is YOUR biggest cheerleader.

No matter what, He is on your squad.

Good day or bad day.

Wise decision or dumb decision.

You tell Him you hate Him or tell Him you love Him.

He is going nowhere.

He will encourage you in the right direction. He will gently counsel you when He notices you are headed in the wrong direction. He will share with you what He knows you need to hear.

But in the midst of that, He will always be on your side. Defending you. Supporting you. Loving you.

So when you are angry and your words to Him are, “Go away. I don’t like you”, His response will be, “I’m not going anywhere. I love you.”

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

When you make the wrong choice and people want to remind you of your mistakes, He will remind you of all your wins.

“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

When you are battling to figure out who you are, He will remind you who He created you to be.

“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5

He will always be on your sidelines as you play this game called life.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Deuteronomy 31:6

He will be the one cheering for you so loud people wonder who this is you’ve got on your side.

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

He will ignore what’s labeled as proper to be sure you hear His words above everyone else’s...because He loves you a whole lot.

“I pray that you will be able to understand how wide and how long and how high and how deep His love is. I pray that you will know the love of Christ. His love goes beyond anything we can understand. I pray that you will be filled with God Himself.” Ephesians 3:18-19

So, my girl, know this: You’ve got your Heavenly Father as your number one cheerleader. And you’ve got your obnoxiously loud obsessive sister who comes in as a close second.

You are being championed on forever and always.

Your sidelines will never ever be empty.

All my love,

Morgan
